Book of the Month and Library
Emily Grimm offers a monthly book choice with a brief description.
After starting in the ministry at the age of 20, Charles Spurgeon soon found that his chapel was unable to accommodate all the people who wanted to hear him preach. Eventually, he spoke to audiences averaging 10,000 in Surrey Music Hall. Part of his success drew from his extemporaneous speaking style which addressed working-class congregations in their own language and drew illustrations from everyday life.
Spurgeon was an equally compelling writer, producing a sermon a week and selling up to 25,000 copies. The devotions found in Evening by Evening show an example of this skill with inspiring and thought-provoking reflections for each day of the year. Written over a century ago, these classic devotions continue to encourage believers to find comfort in Scripture and deepen their relationship with God.
